Nadia Comaneci (Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej Now Onesti) Romanian Gymnast born 12 November 1961. She was the first Romanian to score a of 10 in an Olympic contest. Bela Karolyi, later Romanian Gymnastics Coach, came across Comaneci at just six years old. The first time she competed was at The National Junior Championships which she was 13th place in the year 1969. In the year 1970, she won. In 1972, during a meet of communist countries junior athletes prior to the Olympics, she was awarded three gold medals. Then in 1973 and 1974, she became the all-around junior champ.
